Queen’s Landing Committees

Ever wonder what you can contribute to committees but aren’t sure how often they meet or what they do? Here’s a brief overview.

If you have any questions or just want to get started volunteering you can reach out to any committee chair here.

Election Committee

This one generally meets only the few months out of the year leading up to our October Annual Election and in its current state mostly has to manage how our vendor (or another one it shops for) will conduct the election electronically but any electoral experience you have in other organizations would be valuable.

Maintenance Committee

This is one of the busiest committees and decides how to handle issues around the community that either it or our Maintenance Contractor Kenny find and also any issues that come in via Maintenance Request. The committee works closely with the onsite manager and Long-Range Planning to, you guessed it, plan for and budget future projects. They also assist the Covenants Committee to review the Architectural Control Requests you create when you want to remodel something in the home or patio.

They meet once a month and then sometimes an extra one here and there. While they are always looking for someone with a technical background, even if you don’t have one, they have non-technical stuff you can help with, like just meeting an onsite vendor at someone’s unit.

Covenants Committee

“Covenants” refers to the agreement between all  unit owners to follow the Rules and Regulations we agreed to when we moved into this community. When someone makes a complaint about something they see in the community, that complaint comes to this committee to review and they decide what to do next. This committee also reviews the Architectural Control Requests you create when you want to remodel something in the home or patio.

Long Range Planning Committee

This one is all in the name and they meet monthly and look
at the issues in the community that we know will be long,
complex projects like the roof replacement we just finished over
the last few years or the doors/windows replacements that will
happen over the next few years.

Similar to Maintenance, technical expertise is valuable but not a
requirement!

Insurance/Claims Committee

This one does not meet regularly so does not demand your time
until an insurance claim is made that needs review or we go out
for bids for new insurance. If you have professional expertise in
insurance, you can bring a lot to the table!

Clubhouse Operations and Social Committee

This is the committee that puts on all the events from the Happy Hours and Bingos to the Low Country Boils and Holiday Lights contests. You can join the monthly meetings as a committee member or you could just email them and let them know you might be able to volunteer for some events.

Newsletter, Website, and Communications Committee

This is the committee that bring you the Quarterly Newsletter and this website amongst other things. We meet for one hour every month and typically just review notes from the Board meeting from the night before so they can be published as the BOD Monthly Recap or plan the next Newsletter. We also mind the website and other digital stuff so if you have experience there it would be useful.

Please note you can always send us news or an article or a photo for the Newsletter without joining the committee!

Landscape Committee

This team does a few things. They work with the vendor that does
things like mow and maintain the community. They review the
shrubs, trees, and other plants in the community and sometimes
have to decide if they stay or go. Finally they review when you
put in a change control request for e.g. adding some flowers to
the bed in front of your unit. They meet once a month but not
during the winter season.

Budget and Finance

This committee doesn’t really get active until mid-year, which is
when they approach drawing up the Budget for the following
fiscal year, which will be voted on at the Annual Meeting. You’ll
look at what our projected costs were and actuals for the current
fiscal year and try to make projections for next. Real world
experience with business budgets is great but they are open to
anyone wanting to get involved in the community.

Reserves

This committee decides how to manage the Reserves, which are
all the monies the business keeps saved up every year. Some of
it will always be invested and some of it will be planned out to be
used in projects scheduled around the community over the next
20-30 years, like when the buildings get inspected or washed or
when the tennis court surface needs to be replaced.
